What Will 2020 Bring?
In 2020, the Chinese New Year falls on January 25. The Lunar New Year, which marks the beginning of the new zodiac sign, is February 4. According to Chinese Astrology, 2020 will bring high energy and potential abundance.
As we mentioned in last year's article, Chinese astrology outlines three energies that influence us each year: (1) Yin or Yang energy, which alternates every year; (2) A zodiac animal, which also changes each year; and (3) One of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water), each of which rule for 12 year increments. The mathematicians among you will have already figured out that these three energies create an astrological cycle that takes 60 years to play out. Here is how astrologists expect these three energies to impact 2020:
YIN/YANG - While last year was a Yin year (passive, receptive energy), 2020 is a Yang year (active, outgoing energy). This means that the other astrological aspects of the year will take on an active, outgoing, assertive nature. Note: Even numbered years are always ruled by yang energy, and odd numbered years are always ruled by yin.
ZODIAC ANIMAL - The animals of the Chinese zodiac always proceed through a twelve year cycle in the following order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep/Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. A new cycle begins in 2020, with Rat leading the pack.
While many of us respect and admire rats (did anyone else read Wind in the Willows?) the rat has a spotty reputation in Western culture. However, the rat's positive attributes rule in Chinese astrology. According to one astrologer, "Rats are clever, quick thinkers; successful, but content with living a quiet and peaceful life." Read on for how the element of Metal will influence the Rat in 2020.
FIVE ELEMENTS - This year marks the end of the 12 year cycle ruled by Earth energy, and the beginning of the cycle ruled by Metal. In Chinese astrology, Metal is often designated by the colors gold, silver or white - so you may see 2020 described as the year of the Yang White Rat or the Yang Gold Rat.
So what will the Metal Rat bring in 2020? Metal is cool and can be stabilizing. It is associated with metal weapons and boats. It can also lead to inflexibility. It will be tempered by Rat's creative, quick energy - but the combination can be a little explosive. Some astrological readings suggest 2020 is a year to be patient and prepared - and cautious about engaging in conflict.
If you want to play around with what 2020 means for YOU, we suggest looking up the zodiac animal and element that ruled the year you were born (keeping in mind the Chinese astrological year begins in early February).
